Outstanding, poignant novel. Written by a leading French novelist, Tatiana de Rosnay, this is two stories in one book, beautifully blended.
It is the story of a young Jewish girl who loses her family in 1942 when the French police (not the Germans) send thousands of French Jews to Auschwitz.
The second story is that of Julia Jarmond, an American journalist living in Paris. Sixty years after the infamous round-up of French Jews, she investigates the little-known episode for a Parisian magazine. In the process, she discovers that her story has a link to Sarah’s story, and this discovery melts her heart and changes her life.
It’s hard to get enough of these poignant World War II stories, and this one is especially powerful.
