Brunelleschi’s Dome

This is the story of an architectural marvel in the 1400s.  There was a magnificent cathedral in Florence, Italy, that had been under construction for a century.  A contest was held regarding construction of a massive dome.  The contest was won by Filippo Brunelleschi, a difficult, irascible, and rather confident man.  He would devote the next 28 years of his life, the rest of his life, to this dome, which still today is an engineering and architectural marvel.
